Rice Krispie Treats with Peeps
Easter Peeps come in bunnies, ducks and pretty Easter colors. They are great for making treats and favors for kids birthday parties. These Rice Krispie bunny treats are cute and easy to make. Perfect for any Easter party or if you are celebrating a birthday around this time of year.
Ingredients
- Colorful Round Sprinkles
- Rice Krispies Treats.
- Nestles Milk Premium White Chocolate Morsels
- Bunny Peeps in various colors
- Shortening like Crisco (to help make the white chocolate smoother and easier consistency to work with)
Materials
- Lollipop sticks or popsicle sticks
- Parchment paper to place treats drying as well as to place the cut peeps.
- Small Microwave Safe Bowl or Stainless steel double boiler
- Spatula or wooden spoon to mix chocolate as it is melting
- Small spoon and/or silicone brush to help smooth out the chocolate evenly
- Serrated knife like a steak knife to cut the bunnies in half lengthwise.
Steps to Make Easter Rice Krispie Treats
- Use a stainless steel double boiler pot. Or you can melt chocolate in a microwave safe container. Since microwaves vary, you will have to adjust the time to your microwave. Start with 30 seconds, stir well with wooden spoon, add 15 seconds as needed.
Heat until just melted. Chocolate should be warm not hot. Chocolate scorches very easily and will scorch and taste burnt if heated too long.
- While chocolate is melting, cut bunnies in half lengthwise and place on parchment paper sticky side up. They will reform as they sit there. Serrated steak knives seem to cut a little easier.
- Unwrap Rice Krispie treats and stick a lollipop stick or popsicle stick gently into each treat halfway.
- Spoon chocolate onto top of Rice Krispie treat and smooth chocolate until the entire top surface is covered. Use the brush to smooth out the chocolate in an even layer on the Rice Krispie Treat.
- If chocolate starts to thicken, add a teaspoon of Crisco or shortening to the chocolate and mix well.
- Place the bunny on the chocolate covered Rice Krispie treat.
- Shake sprinkles onto the top of the Rice Krispie treat around the bunny.
Let set and harden. For quicker results and a harder coat, place in refrigerator for 30 min. Remove from refrigerator and store in an airtight container in a cool place.
Tips and Suggestions
- We used a serrated steak knife to cut the bunnies in half. They looked too big when we tried whole bunnies.
- We used the pre packed treats to make these Easter Rice Krispie treats. It is a perfect size and all the treats come out pretty uniform in size. It made it a lot easier than making my own recipe of rice krispie treats.
Peep Treat Idea
Here is another Peep idea for Easter. Use sprinkles to match your party theme. We found this cute idea from Love From the Oven and had to try some too! They are cute and easy to make. You can decorate bunnies, ducks, any color or theme. Experiment with different sprinkles to match the color theme or your party. Perfect for any Easter party or if you are celebrating a birthday around this time of year. Even just dipping these peeps in chocolate make them tasty. I noticed now Peeps sell chocolate dipped Peeps.
Ingredients
- Colorful Sprinkles. The little ones worked better for this recipe.
- Duck or Bunny Peeps
- Nestles Milk Premium White Chocolate Morsels
- Shortening like Crisco (for making the chocolate smoother)
Materials
- Small dishes for sprinkles
- Wax paper or parchment paper
- Small Microwave Safe Bowl or Wilton Chocolate Melter
- Spatula or wooden spoon to mix chocolate as it is melting
- Small spoon or silicone brush
Steps
- Use a chocolate melting pot if you have one or you can melt chocolate in microwave safe container. Since microwaves vary, you will have to adjust the time to your microwave. Start with 30 seconds, stir well with wooden spoon, add 15 seconds as needed.
Heat until just melted. Chocolate should be warm not hot. Chocolate scorches very easily and will taste burnt if heated too long.
- While chocolate is melting, separate ducks carefully. They will reform as they sit there if you smash them while separating.
- Pour sprinkles into shallow dish.
- Spoon, brush or dip peep into chocolate until the bottom is covered. If you use a spoon or brush you don't have to have chocolate on the bottom.
- If chocolate starts to thicken, add a teaspoon of Crisco or shortening to the chocolate and mix thoroughly.
- Place duck into sprinkles and rotate so all sides are covered by sprinkles where ever there is chocolate.
Let set and harden. For quicker results and a harder coat, place in refrigerator for 30 min.
Tips and Suggestions
- We liked using a silicone brush for a smooth edge and minimal chocolate on the bottom of the duck.
- We found the sprinkles and Peeps at Walmart. Peeps now come in a greater variety of colors.
- Bag a few in a clear cello bag and tie with Easter colored ribbons for a cute party favor.
Chocolate Melter Recommendation
We really like this
Double Boiler Pot. It comes in various sizes which is important to note when purchasing. It comes in 4 sizes. It is easy to use and clean. Can be used for a variety of things such as fondue, hollandaise and someone even mentioned melting wax for candles. There are several brands to pick from but I selected this one because there are almost 14,000 views with a 76% rating. I loved the Wilton Chocolate Melter but we made so many projects, that we went through 2 pots before I looked for something a little longer lasting.
