Toddler Recipes: HomeMade Sloppy Joe's

sloppy-joe DESCRIPTION

No more can Sloppy Joe after this! The girls love this recipe and it's quick and easy to make.

  • 1 lb ground hamburger
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns
  • Slice of cheese (optional)

  • Skillet
  • Olive Oil
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon to stir

    1. In medium skillet over medium heat, brown beef, onion and green pepper. Drain.
    2. Stir in garlic powder, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire and mix thoroughly.
    3. Salt and pepper to taste
    4. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
    5. Serve on lightly toasted hamburger buns.

  • Instead of salt, I use Lawry's Seasoned Salt and Garlic Salt
  • I am one of those that hate crunchy onions BUT will eat sweet finely chopped onions well cooked. I use a food chopper to chop and cook first, before adding the hamburger. I add a little olive oil, let it cook about 5 minutes and then add the hamburger.
  • While the hamburger was browning I measured the ketchup in a Pyrex 1 cup measuring cup and added the rest of the ingredients to it and mixed. When the hamburger was browned and drained, I added the contents of the measuring cup using a spatula to get it all into the pan.
  • If you like real saucy Sloppy Joes you can double the sauce ingredients.
  • I sometimes make 2 lbs and freeze half for another dinner!
