Description

Quick and easy to make and so much better than can Sloppy Joe. I make a double recipe and freeze for another night. Heats up well the next day too.
Easy to make sloppy joe recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground hamburger
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns
  • Slice of cheese (optional)

Other Items

  • Large Skillet
  • Measuring cup
  • Cooking Spoon to stir, break up hamburger meat

Steps

  • In medium skillet over medium heat, brown beef, onion and green pepper. Drain.
  • Stir in garlic powder, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire and mix thoroughly.
  • Salt and pepper to taste. (I'd go very light on the salt as ketchup has a lot of sodium.)
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Serve on lightly toasted hamburger buns.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Instead of salt, I use Lawry's Seasoned Salt and Garlic Salt
  • If you don't care for crunchy onions, use a food chopper and cook first, before adding the hamburger. I add a little olive oil, let it cook about 5 minutes and then add the hamburger.
  • Toast your buns or spread a little butter and lightly brown them buttered side down in a cast iron pan.
  • I sometimes make 2 lbs of Sloppy Joes and freeze half for another dinner!
  • Don't care for green peppers or onions?? I have omitted either or both when I didn't have any on hand and it still was enjoyed without anyone noticing unless I specifically mentioned it!
