Toddler Recipes: Easy and Fun Recipe for Play Dough

DESCRIPTION

A great hands on activity that can be used to make letters, numbers, shapes and reinforce fine motor skills like rolling and shaping into a ball.


INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt

  • 2 tsp cream of tartar

  • 1 cup war water

  • Few drops of food coloring

  • STEPS

    1. Mix together all of the ingredients.
    2. Cook over medium heat until the mixture form as a ball.
    3. Pour out and knead the mixture a few minutes to increase smoothness.
    4. Keep in a plastic bag or a tightly covered container.

    5. Place on waxed paper.

    TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS

  • For young children have all ingredients out and measured prior to activity. Let them help put the ingredients into the pot before putting on heat.

  • Adult will be required to finish making the play dough.
  • Use food color sparingly. A few drops spreads a lot of color.

  • Wear smock or old shirt while playing to keep dye off of clothes.

  • OTHER IDEAS

  • Roll out dough in long strands and make letters or numbers.
  • Use play dough or cookie cutters to cut shapes/figures.

  • Practice rolling into a ball!

  • EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS

  • Great for building muscles in fingers

  • Great opportunity to learn letters, numbers and colors in a fun way. Count number of balls made or actually cut numbers with cookie cutters. Roll into long pieces and make letters.
